LOG TRACKING SERVICES

Traceability of logs back to the stump

GFS offers an advanced system to capture tree and log data for use in forest management, recording log production and tracking of logs from the forest to wood processing mills. GFS provides the development of the Log Tracking system based on barcode technology that can be integrated with RFID technology to enable your organization to have a secure computer based system for collecting data on standing trees as well as on the resulting harvested logs .

GFS Log Tracking Service

The system is designed to initially capture tree data based on pre-harvest inventories that will be integrated into the harvest planning system. The systems are designed to use detachable barcodes on trees identified for harvesting during the pre-harvest inventory and the logs extracted. The data from the trees and logs will be submitted to a central that can used by the client for permitting tree felling, collection of revenue and permits to transport the logs, etc.

Under the GFS Log Tracking Service, you will be able to know all trees to be harvested prior to logging as well as a system to trace logs back to the stump within a legally licensed forest harvesting area. The LVP is implemented under 3 phases: Establishment, Implementation, and Monitoring. GFS provides training to build the capacity of your staff as well as external monitoring.

Project Establishment:

GFS will provide for design of the project that will include: Bar-coded tree and log tags to be used to identify trees as part of the comprehensive harvest plan and logs for traceability and collection of royalties. Information management system with Portable Data Recorders (PDR) with scanners to record tree and log data. Computer Database to obtain and analyze both harvest tree and log extraction data for use in issuing permits such as disposal permits. GFS will provide training for staff and subcontractors on the systems. GFS will develop formal procedures for the use of the barcode and database systems for the staff to operate the system as part of the management operations.

Implementation:

GFS will provide training to the client staff and contractors on the system to identify harvest trees and logs using bar-coded labeling systems, hardware and software, data transmission, field data collection, etc. Provide logistical and technical support for the up-keep and maintenance of the information systems.

Monitoring:

GFS will provide third party auditing of the implementation of the barcode system on the trees and logs. GFS will also monitor performance of staff trained under the project to ensure proper implementation of the system.

GFS tailors the Log Tracking system to the particular needs of each client that will include capturing data necessary for submission to government authorities to maintain compliance to regulatory requirements. The system will be designed to be highly efficient and limit paper work to an absolute minimum. The Log Tracking system can provide up to date information on the status of trees and logs once the data is captured in the computer database system.
