Global Forestry Services Inc. (GFS) is a company that functions to support market-oriented solutions to improve forest management and the sustainability of forest-based industries. GFS is dedicated to support efforts to curb Climate Change through programs that generate carbon credits from Carbon Sequestration and Avoided Deforestation. GFS has established new investment services to develop and market projects on forest restoration and plantation development as an economically viable and environmentally friendly Green Investment.
GFS mission is to provide technical support in forestry organization to meet international certification standards as well as management services for forest rehabilitation and investment. GFS aims to provide solutions to assist in the demonstration that products are responsibly sourced and traceable back to legal origin that will comply with requirements for FLEGT and Lacey Act. | Description : |
The scope of this project covers continual monitoring of Harvest Planning (CHP development) and implementation of Reduced Impact Logging (RIL) based on the SFD guidelines for RIL and SFMLA terms and condition for logging & Sustainable Forest Management starting June 2010 until 31 Dec 2014.
- Development of a standard checklist for CHP development and RIL implementation to be approved by SFD.
- Monthly monitoring of licensed areas within SFMLA holders and subcontractors based on CHP development & RIL implementation.
- Monthly Reporting of compliance to SFD along with recommendations for each CHP and for observed non-compliance to RIL implementation.

| Description : |
GFS (Malaysia) currently operates the FLEGT Timber Legality Assurance System (TLAS) for Sabah Malaysia since May 2009 supported by the Sabah Forestry Department and originally sponsored by GIZ of Germany. The legality verification project has expanded to cover ALL harvest license areas in Sabah Malaysia. GFS evaluates legal compliance of ALL forest areas in Sabah Malaysia based on the field verification standard for legal compliance developed under the FLEGT project. The project will be used as a local standard in conjunction with Bureau Veritas OLB system. |

The scope of this Project on understanding timber flows in Laos is to evaluate the timber supply chains in Laos PDR includes production forests, plantations, conversion area from infrastructure projects that are sold into the domestic market or form part of the export market to neighbouring countries. The field study was conducted from August through November 2011 in Vientiane, Salavan, Xekong and Sayaboury & Luang Prabang Provinces to evaluate timber supply and the systems used to document timber supplied to local industry and for export. |

The scope of the project is to support the development of a plantation management system for Burapha Agroforestry concession in Location Laos along with selected smallholder suppliers under a group system for FSC Certification. The scope of the project includes:
- Evaluation of current management and COC system in plantation areas relevant to FSC requirements.
- Training of staff for Burapha Agro-Forestry on the development of plantation management planning, High Conservation Value Forestry & social requirements in line with FSC requirements.
- Support the development of Standard Operating Procedures for key activities and management system for Burapha plantations.
- Support development of a monitoring system for operations, environment and social issues.
- Management guidelines and agreement for small holder suppliers under FSC group scheme.

| Description : |
GFS provides evaluation and monitoring of manufacturers and traders under the Wood Tracking Program (WTP) based on a formal Chain of Custody (COC) systems to track the material used in wood products to verify legal origin back to the forest or plantation. Participating companies must have a formal risk assessment of all suppliers to evaluate legal origin of raw material. All suppliers that are NOT considered low risk must be verified as Legal Origin (VLO) or full Legal Compliance (VLC) based on field visits to the site. Participants must also develop an Action Plan that defines targets to ensure all unknown material is eliminated from the supply chain within 5 years. Companies under a GFS Wood Tracking Program will be monitored 2 times annually (or as deemed necessary) to verify continual compliance to the COC system and progress to the scheduled Action Plan for Responsible Purchasing. |
